Samaavaru: Food Safety Training for Food Establishers

F. Nilandhoo | 8 - 9 June 2026

As part of my role at the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), I facilitated food safety training sessions in F. Nilandhoo under the Samaavaru programme. These sessions marked my first experience delivering structured food safety training, representing an important milestone in my professional journey beyond nutrition education.

The training was designed for food handlers and covered key food safety topics including food hygiene, personal hygiene, foodborne hazards, safe food handling, time and temperature control, cleaning and sanitation, pest control, waste management, and HACCP basics. Through practical discussions and interactive activities, participants explored the importance of safe food practices in protecting public health and preventing foodborne illness.

Facilitating these sessions provided an opportunity to strengthen my knowledge and experience in food safety education while engaging directly with food handlers on topics that are essential to maintaining safe food environments. It was a valuable experience that broadened my work from nutrition promotion to food safety capacity building.
